Man posing as cop pulls over the wrong guy |

There were flashing lights atop his sports utility vehicle and what appeared to be a police badge in his hand, but it was the man he tried to pull over who was the real police detective. Robert Lane, 25, was arrested Tuesday on charges of criminal impersonation and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, Suffolk County police said. Lane was driving an SUV fitted with flashing lights when he tried to stop the off-duty New York police detective on a highway on Long Island, Suffolk police said. They said Lane told investigators the detective had cut him off. The detective got suspicious when Lane drove up alongside him, identified himself as an officer and flashed a small police badge, Suffolk police said. |

#2 Back in the days when a hotel or store detective was referred to as a "house dick" there also used to be a name for people who bought used police crusiers and left them in their old livery with the spotlights and antenna still in place. They were called "limp dicks". |

#1 They said Lane told investigators the detective had cut him off By coincidence Lane just happened to have a couple of flashing lights sitting atop his SUV that happened to be wired up and he noticed a badge laying on the seat beside him. After some quick thinking, he assembled an impromptu plan to pretend he was a police officer and pull the detective over thereby removing a grave threat to the community. |
