Man killed as Thai PM visits the south
2007-07-11
Terrorists Insurgents shot dead a villager in Narathiwat early Wednesday, just hours before Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont arrived in the province for a two-day visit. The 42-year-old man was ambushed at around 6am, when he was working in rubber plantation in Muang district. Police said he was shot several times and was killed instantly. Witnesses told police that at least two insurgents who hid themselves in nearby forest came out to attack the man when he was sapping rubber alone.

Gen Surayud and his aides planned to meet with teachers on Wednesday before heading to Yala and Pattani to assess a recent round-up of more than 300 suspected insurgents detained by soldiers and police.
