Three soldiers wounded in Pattani bombing
2007-07-05
A bomb blast wounded three soldiers in front of a public health centre in Pattani on Thursday morning. Three soldiers were patrolling outside the public health centre in Nongjik district when the explosive device was detonated. The victims were rushed to hospital.

Before the blast which injured the military men, another roadside bomb went off nearby, but no one was wounded, although there were reports of an ambush and a gun battle between security forces and suspected insurgents in the district. Officials are clearing the roads in the area, where trees were felled and spikes were strewn.

In Narathiwat, a bomb was detonated in a market in Sungai Kolok district. The 5-kg device exploded at 7 am, destroying several shops but no one was injured. A police inspection is underway, and mobile phone signals have been cut off in the area to prevent a possible followup bombing.

Thai State Railways workers have fixed sabotaged railway tracks after presumed insurgents removed more than 50 bolts from sleepers in Yala's Raman district early Thursday morning. Soldiers patrolling the rail line found that 56 bolts had been removed from a portion of the tracks between Yala and the Banmaikaen train station. Train service was temporarily suspended while railway workers repaired the track.
