Burning car crashes into Glasgow airport terminal - 3 arrested
2007-06-30
A blazing car crashed into the terminal building at Glasgow Airport in Scotland on Saturday, police said. The incident came just a day after police foiled car bomb attacks in London.

"The police have been called at about 3:15 (pm) (1415 GMT) at Glasgow Airport. A car had crashed inside the terminal. It was on fire," a police spokeswoman told AFP.

She added that she did not know if it was a terrorist attack or if there were any victims.
We'll add info here as it is known

From Sky News:

Three people have been arrested after a jeep was driven into the terminal building at Glasgow airport and caught fire, police have confirmed.
Witnesses reported hearing a series of loud "bangs" and saw at least two men - one of whom was on fire - emerge from the vehicle.

There are reports of several injuries.

The Cherokee 4x4 smashed into a glass door at Terminal One of the airport, the busiest in Scotland, which has now been closed.

Witnesses said some of the hundreds of people in the area removed gas cylinders from the jeep before it caught fire.

But there are reports the men were trying to fling petrol onto the flames.

Scott Gleeson said he saw the jeep speed up and swerve towards the terminal at an angle to hit the door. "They were obviously trying to get through to cause as much damage as possible," he said.

Police say it is too early to say whether the incident - which comes after failed car bomb attacks in London - was related to terrorism.

Holidaymaker Stephen Clarkson said he knocked one of the men to the floor before police intervened.

He said: "There was an Asian male. He was lying on the floor and he was on fire, the Jeep was on fire as well.

There was chaos at the scene.

"The fellow got up and started fighting with police. I managed to knock the Asian fellow to the ground and four police officers got on top of him." He added: "His whole body was on fire. He was quite a big fellow and was disorientated otherwise I wouldn't have been able to knock him down."

James Edgar told Sky News: "People were running past like they has missed their flight. They told us all to get out of the airport.

"Everyone was in a panic and police and security were scuffling with an Asian gentleman."

He added: "There was a lot of anger - if the crowds had got hold of this gentleman it would have been the end of him."

#43  Frank G you left out the bold.

He's not obliged to, Ship. I do it as a matter of courtesy so that others can more easily detect when they have been addressed personally. YMMV.

I criticize others, especially the "dip em in pig blood and bury em in a pig carcass" rants

I could not agree with you more and have railed against the same crapulence myself.

- you are more prolific and unnecessarily wordy with the same message.

That's your opinion, others seem to appreciate what I write and say so quite often. Skipping ahead, I'll say this: Your criticism is sufficiently honorable whereby I'll look into toning it down a bit. I have no desire to harp upon shit over and over again. As a patriotic American, I am deeply concerned when so few people seem to comprehend the level of threat we face.

I heard you the first time. My strategy? I think Islamic terror needs to be smacked harshly and fully agree with the Jack Bauer methodology.

Please elaborate. I haven't watched television in almost six years. I know he's a character in "24" but am unfamiliar with his methods. Is he a part of the hunter—killer teams we both support?

I don't agree with "kill em all"

Neither do I, no matter how many times you make such unbased accusations against me.

although I acknowledge a lot of people will be unnecessarily killed in any strategy because the bad guys are so well infiltrated.

I don't just acknowledge such a thing, I predict it which—evidently—wads up panties left and right.

Go ahead, flame me

Nope, ain't gonna. Believe it or not, I admire you too much for that sort of crapulence. Your sense of humor is par excellent. While you may aspire to be "tu3031's snark", you're already there and just don't know it.

but I have dwelt on you lately because I think you're smarter and a better person than the stuff you've been macro'ing in

It ain't macro'ed, Frank. Those are my honest feelings. Shared too often, perhaps, but what I truly feel. Rest assured I do appreciate your estimation of my abilities.

and upon self-reflection, perhaps you might see things differently.

I'd dearly love to except that the constant onslaught of Islamic crapulence has pushed me over the edge of any further tolerance for their bloodlust.

Others, I don't have any hopes of that. Take that for what it's worth - 2 cents.

No, it's worth more than that. You are willing to give a damn care and have taken the time to respond personally. I'll not diminish that by glossing over your worthwhile comments.

I also know that "my strategy" and a couple bucks will get me a cup of coffee and not a lot else.

I think you're wrong. You obviously have some brains. All of us need to be using them 24/7 to consider and reconsider the options available until some sort of useful strategy emerges. It's what I'm trying to do, albeit probably too hard, but I'd hate to think that I didn't give this vital issue my worst best.

As long as he didn't imply a connection between the terms "Muslim" and "terrorist" his job should be safe.

Interestingly, about half an hour ago on FoxNews I heard their pet military authority, retired Lt.Gen, ret'd (Air Force) or something like that, say out loud that the War on Terror is not against Al Qaeda but against radical Islam (!!!) and the car bombers are not Al Qaeda but another group. The only thing he didn't mention was Sudden Jihad Syndrome.

#37  It's not Sudden Jihad Syndrome. It takes time and planning to scout targets, steal cars, make circuit boards for cell phone detonators, make explosive initiators, etc. This was planned well before Rushdie's knighthood and there are many more just like these in the UK when 25% of muslims think terrorism is justified and 30% want to turn the UK into a fundamentalist Islamic state where sharia rules. That's ALL UK muslims, much higher for the Paki invaders.

#31  "Asian gentlemen"?

Clearly Brit slang for Cambodians, of the Methodist faith....

Posted by: John Frum   2007-06-30 15:53

#30  Of course it's SJS. But the suddenness is at the front end of deciding to do so, not at the back end of execution. There were gas tanks (presumably propane) in the vehicle as well as gasoline already aflame plus the molotov cocktails. The idiots intended the explosion to wipe out the entire terminal, but it fizzled. Just as the bomb vest idea fizzled at the hospital... and most of the other attempts have fizzled thus far.

No virgins, no dramatic explosion, and lots of very painful burns likely not being treated gently in hospital. As Brett commented about the non-intersection of jihadism and competence... Clearly Allah is showing whose side he's really on.
Posted by: trailing wife   2007-06-30 15:52

#29  Unlike the two car bombs which had to have been planned far in advance, judging from its amateurishness this could have been an act of Sudden Jihad Syndrome.

Perhaps the knighting of Salman Rushdie triggered homicidal impulses in members of the Religion of the Perpetually Aggrieved. Or it could have been the foul weather - just about anything sets off these ticking timebombs of flesh.

#23  No, Frank, it's a human being who is totally fed up with Islam's violence and predations upon the West. Maybe you aren't there yet. Possibly it will take some sort of Muslim atrocity in your own neighborhood before you change your mind. I've lost all hope that Islam will behave itself. We are going to have to do some serious rethinking about the value of having Muslims in Western society. Their belief structures are wholly incompatible with the constitutional freedoms we enjoy and cherish.

#21  whats that, the F4 macro?
Posted by: Frank G   2007-06-30 14:17

#20  Wonder where this is going.

It's going to be one endless string of terrorist attacks. Some successful, others less so, but they will not stop until Muslims are removed from Western society. It should be clear by now that Islam has zero intention of policing itself. Reform is likewise out of the question. Muslims have in no way demonstrated a willingness to begin cleaning out the jihadists from their midst. So, where does that leave us?

Recongregate this world's Muslim population back in their countries of origin. Citizens can have the choice of internment or return to their ancestral lands. Contain the entire MME (Muslim Middle East) and kill anyone trying to exit it. Bomb out the occasional nuclear weapons startup and keep a tight lid on the whole mess.

Either that or be prepared to spend TRILLIONS of dollars on futile police efforts like Iraq and the security needed to combat domestic terrorism in the West. Even all that money will not prevent some truly horrific terrorist atrocities. So long as there are Muslims among us, the attacks will continue, guaranteed. Islam must be banned in all Western countries. As a singular violation of human rights, Shari'a law in any form must be prohibited as well. Declare all Muslims persona non grata and remove them from our societies.

The only other alternatives are far more violent.

Methinks the EUnichs are re-pondering their multiculti, uberliberal ethos and might soon conclude these clods actually mean what they say and can NOT be bought off. It is submit or fight.

I'm not a firefighter, but I was wondering why they didn't hook on a grapple and drag it away from the building, which kept getting reignited by the flames.
