#5 Are those days over?? No, they're not, Frank. But my patience with spilling gallon after gallon of American blood to defend a nation full of people who haven't got the stones to begin throttling their oppressors at every opportunity has worn thin. At last check, Afghanistan was overflowing with weapons. As mojo so eloquently pointed out, what's to prevent a villager from going along with forced recruitment just long enough to get a weapon in his hands and gun down his captors? If they don't trust him with a weapon, maybe he needs to club them with a rock or something. This crapulence of Muslims play acting like they're the helpless victims of a few extremists is old news. How about this? We air drop thousands of cheap cell phones so that Afghan citizens can report Taliban movement. If they don't, those areas do not receive any troop support and instead get bombed out when the Taliban come visiting. |

#4 All this means to me is that the civilians are willing to cooperate with the Taliban because they agree with their aims doesn't occur to you that under the gun, they might decide NOT to die immediately, but take their chances as a hostage? Jeebus. Zen, You have, at times, posted logically and realistically thought out comments. Are those days over?? |

#1 The Taliban now more frequently seek out civilians, to take shelter among. The presence of civilians will offer some protection for the Taliban. But if it appears that the Taliban will still be able to get away (like after nightfall), a smart bomb will be used anyway. This results in civilian casualties, and the Taliban has used this to their advantage in their propaganda. How in Hell have the Taliban "used this to their advantage in their propaganda"? They're getting extra civilians killed and managing to foist the blame upon coalition troops. All this means to me is that the civilians are willing to cooperate with the Taliban because they agree with their aims. If so, we are not killing civilians but collaborators. This is nothing more than the usual Islamic crapulence. So long as Afghanistan's civilian population does not aggressively resist Taliban operations in their midst, they are military enemies and deserve to get blown away. The coalition also needs to mount a much more serious propaganda campaign to highlight the Taliban's blatant disregard for civilian safety. |
