Rosie is Emo
2007-06-22
Watched Rosie this morning. You know, Rosie OÂ’Donnell. SheÂ’s that homebody who lives with her wife and kids and hangs out with her good-time girlfriends and says whatever she wants.

You thought she was off the air? Nah.

This is not the cutie-patootie closeted “Rosie O’Donnell Show,” from back when she was "The Queen of Nice" and it’s not, of course, “The View,” which Ms. O’Donnell left in a contract-slamming huff on May 25, following a vicious argument with her round-table foil, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, on air.

Instead itÂ’s Ms. OÂ’DonnellÂ’s online show, a video blog called, more or less, nothing. . . .
The theme music goes something like this:

I'm ranting and raving on a show with no name
It felt good to give my viewers pain
If you're a moonbat, you can't remember your name
For you ain't no one who's a-usin' her brain

(Apologies to America.)

All the videos are pure Rosie, in the sense that with their unforgiving lighting and absent production values Ms. OÂ’Donnell, the comic-actress-host, is revealing the last of whatever she was holding back on daytime television. . . . Ms. OÂ’DonnellÂ’s videos feature no commercials, no scripts, no music, no wardrobe, no crew. Most of them are Rosie in front of her computer, staring at you at yours. (Even when others are in the video, Ms. OÂ’Donnell unceremoniously crowds them out.)
She either needs to dial back her ego or spring for a wide angle lens--maybe both.

There she is, the fork-tongued lady, without bronzer to contour her face or concealer to hide her fatigue, or directors to keep her coloring within the political and professional lines. . . .

Ms. OÂ’Donnell seems to be experimenting with an emo style, the morose deadpan known to YouTubers but anathema to TV and stage veterans like herself. . . .

As emo podcasts go, I'm afraid Rosie can't hold a candle to this gal. Click the link and see what a much thinner woman true professional at morose navel-gazing looks like.

And you know she means it when she says of Jimmy Carter: “He is to me a Christlike figure in this earth.”
Somewhere in Queens, a retired nun weeps in bitter disappointment. "I taught her ninth grade Catechism class. Where did I go wrong?"
ThatÂ’s clearly Rosie.

And when she hiccups and stops thinking about Mr. Carter and says, “O.K., that’s like the seventh hiccup during a blog,” that’s her too.

Some videos are simply animated collages, one nominally showing support for the United States military. It features a heavy “Impeach Bush for War Crimes” element and images from antiwar protests, pictures of unidentified babies and snapshots of Ms. O’Donnell’s family (and one of Ms. O’Donnell and Ms. Hasselbeck looking chummy) to the tune of the dirgelike “Someone Else’s Tomorrow” by Patty Griffin. Though the video is called “i love r troops,” the material seems to have little connection to the title.
Or to reality.

#8  I thought of looking at Rosie's site and then a vision of Pippin squirming with the palantir came to mind.

I wish I could find the link where she says she glues toy soldiers (painted red) to a board. One for each US KIA in Iraq. No word if she does the same for Afghanistan...

#5  Goodness. It's the New York Times that doesn't like Ms. O'Donnell's latest work. Is the world coming to an end?

#4  C'mon, tu, cut him a break. Maybe the Ex-lax wasn't working, or the Ipecac wasn't enough to get him honking.

#1  "She either needs to dial back her ego or spring for a wide angle lens..." with an ass so big her shadow weighs 40 pounds, she needs a wide angle lens at all times' preferably with the cap superglued in place.
