Police, Officials Insist Attacks on Drivers Not Related to Juneteenth Celebrations
2007-06-22

Police and organizers of Juneteenth events in two cities went out of their way Thursday to insist that attacks against drivers — one of which left an Austin, Texas, man dead — have nothing to do with the crowds attending the celebrations.

But in both cases, electronic evidence raises questions about how the crimes were being characterized by officials. In Austin, a woman who called 911 on Tuesday night to report the brutal beating of David Rivas Morales, a 40-year-old man attacked by a crowd in a housing complex parking lot, said she struggled to the police dispatcher to understand her location, and described the scene as a gang fight involving people celebrating Juneteenth at a nearby park, according to audio files released Thursday by the city.

#13  Juneteenth around here was quiet - no problems whatsoever. There WAS a spat at the St. Patrick's Day parade when a bunch of Code Pink idjits tried to march, "protesting the illegal war in Iraq and Afghanistan". Police said that the St. Patrick's Day parade was an inappropriate venue for such behavior, and asked them to leave. When they refused, a few heads were busted. A 67-year-old woman is suing the city for "abuse". She bruised her hip when she refused to leave and was dragged away kicking and screaming. Too bad, so sad.

During Frontier Days, there were two fights that resulted in bodily injury. Neither involved race, religion, or sexual orientation - just too much beer and too little intelligence.

#12  I have to agree that I singled out people based on race, and the Moderators did their duty.

McZoid, as much as others here have granted me leniency, I'd also like to say, "no harm no foul". I don't quite feel that way, but I'd rather see this community function as a united body. I will say; Let's judge on the basis of ideology and not race.

To close with an extremely politically incorrect notion:
(One that I've maintained for many decades)

Niggers come in all colors and some of the worst are white.

I know this because my stepfather is black and my older brother is white and both of them are the worst sort of niggers.

#10  Sorry for posting redactable comments. The comments weren't racist, but I can see where someone would be offended.

Ya think? hahahahahhahahaha.

Check your damn moron metre.

#9  Come on people, now. Smile on your brother. Everybody get together and love one another right now.

Except for the "sp*cs", right McZoid? I was going to reply to your comment last night but remained confident the moderators would do the right thing. As Excalibur correctly notes:

Grant people a history of grievance and a sense of entitlement and they will use it.

Hundreds of thousands of Union dead - including black Americans under arms - made "Juneteenth" possible. This is something to be proud of and for which to be grateful. It is not a license for riot.

Personally, I detect an overall lack of gratitude that is nothing short of appalling. The snake oil of Multiculturalism is furthering a perilous fragmentation of America's people. Enshrinement of Diversity—which need not be a bad thing—is being used to shoulder aside the far more vital Unity that we must have as a free people to counter the real threat that confronts us.

#7  Grant people a history of grievance and a sense of entitlement and they will use it. The lesson of this is not that Hispanics or African-Americans or whathaveyou are different; it is that they are the same as everybody else. Humans can be clannish, bigoted and violent and will take advantage if given the opportunity.

The answer is to deal brutally with all mobs no matter what "community leaders" or the snakish press will have to say about it after and to teach proper history and a genuine sense of pride. Hundreds of thousands of Union dead - including black Americans under arms - made "Juneteenth" possible. This is something to be proud of and for which to be grateful. It is not a license for riot.

#6  Article: The driver told police he got away in his vehicle before the beating began and didn't know his friend had been hurt, Carter added.

He left his friend behind. What a dipstick.

#5  As to your other points, there should never be tolerance for racist assaults on ANY day.

Unfortunately though, in case you haven't been paying attention, crimes by ethnic minorities are quite often just not their fault. It's the white mans fault. Tell me how many minorities you've heard about facing trial for hate crimes, compared to whites that is.

#4  Wow!!! Double WOW! "Spic" flies past the "Pink" moderator, but "negro" doesn't. I guess we know where Doctor White's bias lies. Don't we?

Waiting for knee-jerk closet liberal reaction in...3, 2, 1.

#3  "Spic" is an offensive and derogatory term, McZoid. As to your other points, there should never be tolerance for racist assaults on ANY day.

#2  You might want to lighten up on the racism there, McZoid.

#1  Joke! White visitors to Mexico know better than to go outside during the nationalist "Cinco de Mayo" race festival. Spics also celebrate the "Day of the Race," in the Fall. Similarly, blacks are empowered to break laws on Martin Luther King day. That is one reason why Senator Goldwater was against the holiday.
