Cyclone Forces Oman to Evacuate 7,000 |
2007-06-05 |
![]() Cyclone Gonu, with winds of 160 miles per hour and gusts of 195 miles per hour, was headed northwest through the Indian Ocean toward Oman's east coast, said Weather Underground meteorologist Tim Roche. The storm was expected to weaken before starting to lash Oman on Tuesday, with winds of 115 mph. The most powerful part of the storm was expected to hit Oman on Thursday before moving north into southern Iran. Even with the weaker wind speeds, Gonu would be the strongest cyclone to hit the Arabian Peninsula since record keeping started in 1945, Roche said. |

#12 The roads to the hills of Oman apparently all run along the bottom of canyons & arroyos which will shortly be subject to flash floods. The Omanis better move uphill while they can. |

#9 Yes, but they're covered in mud huts which should be melting soon. So it's all good news today. |

#7 Not me Barbara; I credit Karl Rove and the Cheney-controlled Halliburton Weather Control Division. Now if Halliburton could only arrange more earthquakes in Iran.... |

#6 Here is NOAA's satelite overlay. That's gonna leave a mark on such dry, sandy country. I blame Bush. |

#4 Don't we have a fleet in the Persian Gulf right now? You can see the cyclone here, but it's not very good resolution, since it shows the entire disk of the Earth. |

#1 Weather channel sez this is headed for Iran and should hit as a Cat 3 or 2. I think Allen is displeased with somebody. Or, its the evil Bush weather control apparatus at work again. |
