| Government offices and banks reopened in Parachinar, Kurrum Agency, but government and private schools are still closed, officials said on Monday. Parachinar was the scene of some of the worst sectarian clashes in its history on April 6. According to official figures, 83 people were killed and 210 were injured in the weeklong clashes. “Government offices and banks opened today as law and order has improved with the deployment of army and paramilitary forces,” said the officials, asking not to be named. They said that long queues of people were seen in front of banks and other government offices and that the administration had arrested six people for allegedly disturbing law and order. “The Parachinar-Peshawar highway is still dangerous and people are travelling in convoys with security cover,” they said, adding that a night curfew was intact in Parachinar. |
