This is a lengthy look at Joseph Ratzinger and the papacy of Benedict XVI. It's from the New York Times Magazine. I've only read the first two pages, but I think it is worth reading in full.

#1  Throughout the Nazi experience, his father guided him to see it as an outgrowth of modern godlessness. The effect was to reinforce the idea of the church as a bulwark against darkness — against secularism and rationality run amok.

Or at least, such is the line of Pope Benedict's argument. An interesting piece; thanks for posting it.
