Continues yesterday's story...![]() Prime minister Nuri al-Maliki had visited strife-ridden al-Anbar province last week as a show of government support to local tribesmen and government-sanctioned armed groups going after terrorists wreaking havoc in that province. The tribesmen see themselves as part of a government-approved organization known as "al-Anbar Revival" led by a distinguished Sunni leader named Sheikh Abdul-Sattar Abu Reesha. |

#6 Probably the tribes are the source. Which means it coudl be laser accurate, or puffed to make the local imir look bigger. |

#5 MSM has been covering US/Iraqi police ops in Anbar, but not this. Probably because the coalition ops are sourced to Centcom/MNF. What re the sources for KUNA/Al Hurra on this? Either the Govt of Iraq, or direct sources in the tribes. The Govt of Iraq has generally proven a less reliable source than Centcom/MNF, and its hardly surprising the MSM doesnt have the same contacts in Anbar that KUNA or Al Hurra do - language, culture, all that. Im not saying I think this story is WRONG - I will take it with SOME salt, but not that much. |

#3 A good start - and a turning point. THIS is what has been needed: THe Sunnis not only to abandon AlQ, but to actively oppose them by sending their sons to join the police force and Army. The press missed it. |

#1 And here I thought that "Al Anbar Revival" is a Sunni tribute band to the music of John Fogarty. |
