Ugandan troops continue to arrive in Mogadishu

(SomaliNet) The second part of the Ugandan peacekeeping forces complete with their military equipment arrived in the Somalia capital Mogadishu Wednesday. Five military Algerian cargo aircrafts carrying the troops landed at the main Mogadishu airport. Two planes were carrying around 400 Ugandan soldiers, sources close to the government told Somalinet, despite government's refusal to let journalists into the airport.

The troops are part of 1,700 peacekeeping forces the Ugandan government promised to send into Somalia. The arrival of todayÂ’s troops brings 800 soldiers the total number of Ugandan forces currently in Mogadishu. Officials of Somalia government hailed the arrival of the Ugandan troops in Mogadishu as encouraging step for the deployment of the rest of African Union peacekeepers. On Tuesday, the first AU peacekeepers from Uganda arrived in the Somalia capital Mogadishu receiving a warm welcome from the government officials at the airport.
