Government official killed in southern Thailand |

Insurgents shot dead a government official Tuesday morning in Pattani province when he and his three-year-old daughter were taking his wife to work at a local school, police said. Mongkol Surakarn, 34, was killed when he was riding a motorcycle on the Na Pradoo-Yala road in Khok Pho district. Mongkol passed away shortly after reaching hospital. His wife and daughter survived, with minor injuries and were being treated at Khok Pho Hospital. Police Lt Col Ampai Chumchuay said Mongkol was shot in the head by two gunmen and in critical condition when he arrived at the hospital. |
