| PPP pledges to block president's re-election |

| The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will use all options available, including parliamentary resignations, if President Pervez Musharraf tries to get himself re-elected through the current assemblies, PPP Secretary-General Raja Pervez Ashraf said on Friday. “The current assemblies cannot elect the president for another term just as they cannot present the 2008 budget,” he said. “The president has come into power by force and has taken the country hostage.” He was talking to reporters at a ceremony to announce that two union council naib nazims from Attock had joined the PPP. The naib nazims said they would continue their struggle for the restoration of democracy under Benazir Bhutto. |
