Defense Minister Amir Peretz said during the military conference on the Lebanon war that he accepts intelligence assessments that the recent Syrian peace overtures are serious. Peretz added that Hizbullah had taken a serious beating in the war. Its infrastructure was destroyed, and it suffered billions of shekels worth of damage, he said. IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen Dan Halutz was expected to give a press briefing shortly after the end of the conference.
