Lebanon: Interview - Hezbollah Not Against International Court |
2006-12-19 |
![]() Lebanon and the United Nations have so far failed to agree on the terms for creating an international tribunal to try suspects charged in connection with the February 2005 assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri. A UN panel is investigating the murder. The outgoing labour minister, who teaches philosophy at the university of Beirut, also said Hezbollah was hoping for a government of national unity as "the only route to take." "We Hezbollah are not asking for more ministries to halt the work of the executive, which would be illogical, but to oblige the majority coalition to take into account our positions, which are those of millions of people," he also said. The Shiite ministers resigned after the majority group in parliament refused Hezbollah's request for cabinet seats that would give it and its allies the power of veto in multi-party talks. |
