Afghan and foreign troops clashed with Taliban fighters in southern Afghanistan on Friday, killing seven rebels in a battle involving war planes, mortars and gunfire, the US-led coalition said.Separately the coalition said it had arrested 11 “terrorists” in a raid in an eastern province. The day-long battle was near Sperwan Ghar, an area in Kandahar province which has seen several major clashes between Taliban and security forces. A coalition soldier was also wounded in the engagement, the US-dominated force said in a statement.
The coalition said in a separate statement meanwhile that its troops working with Afghan forces had captured 11 “terrorists” Friday in a raid on a compound in the volatile eastern province of Khost. The raid was launched on “credible intelligence” and “terrorist propaganda” was found, it said.
NATO and Afghan forces are fighting the Taliban in different areas of Afghanistan, especially those on the border with Pakistan.
