US soldier killed in Baghdad, 3 Iraqi policemen wounded in Mosul
2006-11-23
(KUNA) -- A US soldier was killed in a non-combat situation in Salahuddine Province north of Baghdad, announced the US Army on Wednesday. A US Army press release said the soldier, member of the Thunder Task Force, was killed on Tuesday, but didn't give further details. The total number of US soldiers killed in November reached 43.

In western Mosul, three Iraqi policemen were wounded when an explosive device blew up targeting a police patrol, said police sources. In another incident, a security source said the Iraqi forces in Kirkuk arrested on Tuesday an armed cell working for the Tawheed and Jihad Group and is responsible for executing a number of armed operations in the city.

Meanwhile, unknown gunmen assassinated on Wednesday a bodyguard for Speaker of the Iraqi General Assembly Dr. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani. A press release issued by Al-Mashhadani's office said that another bodyguard was wounded in the attack, noting that both bodyguards were heading to work when the gunmen showered their vehicle with bullets. Earlier today, Al-Mashhadani announced during a parliamentary session that a new security force, dubbed Parliamentary Police, will be formed to provide more protection for members of the General Assembly.
