Death penalty approved for Sgt. Hasan Akbar
2006-11-22 | ||

Approval of the death penalty means that Akbar’s case will automatically go to appeal and be reviewed by the U.S. Army Court of Criminal Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and ultimately could end up at the U.S. Supreme Court. “He can’t be executed until the president gives a firm OK,” said military law expert Eugene Fidell, who is not involved in the Akbar case. However, he added, Akbar’s case will likely be in appeals for some time to come. “Experience teaches that this case will not be over while Mr. Bush is in office,” Fidell said.

#32 Actually, Allan in Riyadh, a great many of us here at Rantburg have already done our "bit" for freedom. Some have even served time, and I use that word intentionally, in your cesspool of a country and several others in your general vicinity. Others have done their "bit" in a great many more countries around the entire globe. Some of us have even killed people so your cesspool of a country could sell us your stinking black goo at exhorbitant rates. So, STFU Allan, and that goes for your entire moon-worshipping cult as well. You want to start something? Go ahead and try to start something over here - you will not get the chance to wish you hadn't if you piss us off badly enough. Now, go fuck yourself you ignorant troll. |

#26 If we had contempt for human life there would be ever so many more dead people. The people who have contempt for life are the islamofacists. But you will never take them to task. Only be nasty to those you know will not harm you. Make your statement and feel like a big man. My how brave. Your are gutless. |

#24 While the Hasan should pay the price for his actions, there are many people in the US who totally abhor the conduct of ‘our’ government and its contempt of human life. This includes both Iraqis and US citizens. Bush will pay the ultimate price when his time comes. |

#21 Per my comments in today's Fjordman article, it may become necessary to biometrically screen (fMRI or PET) all known Muslims in our military. Although I'd just as soon welcome an outright ban, like others here have suggested, screening would still provide some basic level of detection and protection. As for |

#20 Execute him. Anything less sends a strong...BAD... message to the military. As an aside...I hope that "protester-5th columnist" pictured by AC gets a one way ticket to the Magic Kingdom. She can be an early devotee of the sharia (rhymes with diarrhea) law she is attempting to usher in. I'll chip a few bucks in! |

#19 I can't even name a person or date that the military carried out an execution and trust me there are some scum that really deserve death Number of Executions 135 people have been executed by the Army since 1916 (Source: National Law Journal, 4/5/99) Date of last military execution On April 13, 1961, U.S. Army Private John A. Bennett was hanged after being convicted of rape and attempted murder. |

#18 I hate to let you all in on this but the sentence has little chance of being carried out. Chances are that it will be cummuted to Life W/O Parole. I can't even name a person or date that the military carried out an execution and trust me there are some scum that really deserve death. |

#17 I believe (not sure) he'll be executed, when the day comes, by firing squad, since he was in uniform when he committed his crime. As it should be. All the good people in the military need to see that it's done properly, with all respect for the military traditions involved in executing one of their own who's gone over to the other side. There's a certain grim relief in seeing justice done properly. |

#16 The US is getting spanked good and proper in Iraq, its Vietnam mark2 You are a liar and an idiot. Thanks to your enslavement by media culture and your basic lack of itelligence or other human qualities, you have no idea what is really happening there. Fools like you give the terrorists hope and keep them going, and that is all that keeps them going because they are being killed in wholesale lots every day. Most of Iraq is at peace and the rebuilding process goes on day and night. The violence you see in the media is tailored specifically to support the media's defeatist message. Dupes like you swallow it hook, line, and sinker and imagine yourselves part of an elite for doing so. This scum didn't save anything and you need to think about what will save you when the world's collective reversion to adolescence finally ends and accountability returns. Google up Julius Streicher, moron. Follow his path, share his fate. |

#15 "Think how many lives in Iraq this guy saved." -yep, a lot of islamonut-klinger-insurgent jerkoffs can thank Akbar for helping them to continue their disgusting existence. While two fine officers are gone and their families are in turmoil. HT5773 - you're obviously an idiot as your line of thinking clearly dictates. Which, I guess is the beauty of being a UBD (Under Bridge Dweller aka troll), you get to say stupid things, make absolutely no sense, and in 50 yrs when your paying the dhimmi to your new klinger masters you will still be saying stupid things, making absolutely no sense, and we still be here laughing at you. BTW - you should really get out of the cyber cafe and back to work at the chipper, folks on the dole are depending on you. |

#14 i find it most amusing the whole 'were losing' thing, i mean come on, our forces have gone over there, there being half way around the world, removed a vicious sick peadophile dictator and his family from power, destroyed the baathist rule and stalinist goverment there, have a kill ratio of perhaps 10 to 1 at the low estimates, maybe 30 to 1 at high estimates. Oh wait yeah we destroyed a whole fckin army too plus the old iraqi airforce, had absolutly no comeback on our own soil be it in the Uk or America from iraqi forces and all with just 3000 losses! Thats some fckin incredable stats there really. Too sum up, dictator removed, baathist goverment removed, iraqi military vapourised oh and after what 3 years now were still fckin there killing the Osamanauts and jihadi nuts and they can't do squat about it. yeah were losing yeah hehe. Now if the all our forces were pushed out in a feirce battle and saddam returned to power then yeah i;d say thats losing but fck eh people need to realise what winning and losing actually is, we stomped the fck outa them, and are still there stomping! how is that losing? |

#11 Think how many lives in Iraq this guy saved. The US military needs more like him. Might have saved the 3000+ who've lost their lives already. The US is getting spanked good and proper in Iraq, its Vietnam mark2. It ain't winnable. |

#4 Too bad the process can't be speeded along. Bush would sign-off on this in a heartbeat. (re: Texas record for executions). I suggest putting him in a deep pit with 5 hungry hogs. Would be slow and painful as they chewed away. |

#3 What are the options? Hanging? Lethal injection? I would suggest rolling a grenade into his cell at some random point during the next year. If he lives, he gets to walk. If he still can. That ought to make it interesting. |
