Basra-based UK forces come under rocket fire |
2006-11-17 |
(KUNA) -- All British locations and military bases in the south Iraqi city of Basra came under shelling overnight, a spokesman for the south Iraq-based UK armed forces said in a statement Thursday. "Up to 26 Katyusha rockets landed on the outskirts of the British Embassy in central Basra while the Basra Airport, which is also used by British forces as a military base, came under fire and was targeted by nine such rockets," the spokesman said. It added that a further three rockets landed on the military base and Shuaiba south of Basra while the British military base in the Shatt Al-Arab strategic waterway north of Basra also sustained four rockets. This is the first time the British bases, which have been based in Basra since 2003, are targeted by such an intensive barrage of rockets. |

#2 Terrorist cowards launch missiles and mortars from civilian areas because they know that UK forces won't retaliate in kind. The solution rests in pacification of the cities by Iraqi soldiers. That can't happen until: first, Shiite power is neutralized; Sunni power is directed against al-Qaeda in Iraq and the other terror groups. We can stay the course in Iraq, while working on regime change in Iran. When that happens, Iraq can be pacified. |

#1 Time to capture strayed Iranian vessels along the shatt al-arab waterway , and create an unworkable political solution . We owe them that at least *wink* |
