France: Israel stopped mock air attacks
2006-11-13
Victory! At last!
During EU meeting in Brussels, French defense minister says IAF warplanes have stopped mock air strikes targeting European peacekeepers in Lebanpn following incident in which French peacekeepers came within seconds of shooting down Israeli warplanes

Israeli warplanes have stopped mock air attacks targeting European peacekeepers in Lebanon following a French government protest, French Defense Minister Michelle Alliot-Marie said Monday.
Behold the Power of the french government!!!
"There is no more of that attitude - that is, an openly hostile attitude - like we had over a French vessel, a German vessel and the French ground forces, which caused a real danger of legitimate defense measures being taken," Alliot-Marie told reporters at a European Union meeting.

Paris demanded Israel stop the raids after French peacekeepers came within days seconds of shooting down Israeli warplanes two weeks ago.

Alliot-Marie said Israeli overflights of Lebanon were continuing in defiance of the UN, but said they were no longer taking a threatening approach to the peacekeepers. She repeated French forces could have launched an "automatic defense reaction" after Israeli planes failed to identify themselves while flying mock bombing runs at peacekeepers.

The commander of the French-led UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon said last week that such a scenario was avoided only because of restraint by French forces.

#13  Have the French actually shot down an airplane since 1918?

Shooting at Israeli warplanes, Froggy.

#11  Take it someone finally managed to explain to the frenchies what the overflights are for and that "mock attacks" were flights of fancy of idiotic francais. If they'd like to move their little shack away from the hezbo tunnel entrance they step over on the way to and from said shack, they'd feel a little less "attacked" at recon overflights.

Still haven't the vaguest idea what they are there for. Useless dramatic twits.

Right! a UN position manned by cheese eating surrender monkeys armed with nothing more than FAMAS was repeatedly overflown by IAF recce planes and they whined to the us media.

Shot down my gerbils shaved genitals.

#8  I wouldn't put it past the French to threaten Israel with nukes. That would divide and weaken Israel's forces, perhaps beyond the point where they couldn't threaten Iran. Win influence in the ME, and France could do it with no real intention of following thru.
Somebody please tell me it's impossible.

#7  EUrope has sided with those who want to wipe the Jews off the face of the earth. We need to make sure the US Democrat party don't join in. They have been making noises like that. Anti-Israel statements and attitudes are quite common in the main stream left, left faction of the party. The part of the party that makes Chomsky out to be a "truthy" hero.

There are not enough French to stop Israel if it decided to attack. They would be a bug squashed with little effort. What would they do then go nuclear?

#5  The French and the rest of the UNIFIL forces or whatever they call them are active or tacit allies of Hizb'Allah, who are rebuilding their position in Lebanon. The French are going to be in the way when the war starts again. When the rockets start firing south, Israel will have to tell the French to leave or be willing to accept collateral damage to French positions. The French are playing a big game of chicken. The Israelis are in this position because of the terrible mistakes of the Olmert government. Israel has some serious issues to ponder.

#2  I see France has formally chosen sides for this war. I wonder which side England will wind up on.
