Indonesia: Iranian Delegation Visits
2006-11-03
Jakarta, 3 Nov. (AKI) - An Iranian parlamentary delegation is expected in the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Friday for a seven-day official visit to discuss bilateral relations. Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, is a staunch supporter of Tehran's nuclear programme, provided it is for civilian use. The international community fears Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons and the UN Security Council is scheduled to discuss sanctions against the country over sensitive atomic work it has refused to freeze.

Tehran has offered technological cooperation to Indonesia which has announced the construction of a number of nuclear power plants by 2015. Indeed an Indonesian delegation conducted a study on Iranian nuclear power plants in August.

Indonesia, the only OPEC country to be a net importer of petrol, needs energy to cover the needs of the 230 million people who live on the country's archipelago of 17,000 islands. The country's energy needs grow on average 10 percent a year.

Time's a' wastin' people.
