Garage deal approved despite Tillman's objections
Four years ago, Chicago became the nation's first major city to issue a "moral and ethical challenge" to companies with which it does business: Come clean about past ties to slavery or get off the governmental gravy train.

Now, that law is about to be put to the test with a lucrative deal hanging in the balance: Mayor Daley's $563 million plan to privatize the Millennium and Grant Park garages.

#2  This selling of the parking places and roads and everything is NOT COOL!

I give Dorthy (the hat lady) Tillman kudos for finding an imaginative way to attempt halting that crook Daley.

BTW Daley's wife is in the LANDSCAPING BIZ and will likely be a prime contractor for all those parks just like see was for the $1bill plus overrun called Millennium Park/Garages.

She should get an A+ for creativity!

#1  I think a lot of this nonsense could be solved right now by some witty individual creating a DNA database. Then take the few known documented slave ancestors and determine their DNA.

This means that if you submit a DNA test, you might qualify for whatever percent of your DNA is attributable to that proven slave ancestor.

Of course, by now, with very few exceptions, the most any African-American could prove to be of slave ancestry would be about 1/15th of their DNA. For the vast majority, they couldn't prove *any* of their genetic ancestors were slaves.

So this means that the MOST they could get out of any class-action "reparations" lawsuit would be 1/15th of an individual settlement amount. So, for example, if the individual "reparations" were determined to be $10,000 per litigant, after attorneys fees, the most they could get would be $666.67

That would be the maximum amount. However, the typical individual class action payment is usually less than $1,000. This would mean that the greatest amount of reparations would realistically be around $66.67 per individual.

And, of course, the DNA database of all African-Americans who participated in the class action lawsuit would have to be administered by the US government.

In turn, this would prove to be a treasure-trove of DNA evidence in outstanding and future criminal investigations, as DNA obtained as part of civil court actions is available for such criminal inquiries.

It could result in the arrest and imprisonment of thousands of African-Americans. And thus the circle would be complete.
