Iraq hangs 27 on terrorism charges
2006-09-07
Iraqi authorities hanged 27 convicted "terrorists" today, an interior ministry spokesman announced. "Twenty-seven terrorists were hanged today in Baghdad. Most of them were Iraqis," said interior ministry spokesman Abdul Karim Khalaf. He said they were convicted for attacks on Iraqi civilians and sentenced to death, in an execution order signed by an Iraqi vice president.

In September 2005 Iraq hanged three convicted murderers in the first executions since the toppling of former dictator Saddam Hussein. The authorities reinstated the death penalty which was abolished after the US-led invasion of March 2003.

#4  Iraq hangs 27 on terrorism charges

cat. garden variety hanging in Iraq. [not including the Uday specials™ etc.]

traditionally the Iraqis never practiced the 'long drop' technique on their condemned prisoners. [like we used to on a regular basis]

Historically they either lifted the condemned up off the ground by the neck 'suspension hanging' or had an executioner hold on to the condemned during the lift thus 'helping the rope' stretch the neck.

USA Table of drops:

Prisoner's weight lbs. Drop

Up to 120 8' 1

125 7'10"

130 7' 7"

135 7' 4"

SKIP~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

220 and over 5' 0"
