The North Waziristan administration ordered the release of 25 tribesmen after a grand tribal jirga met senior government officials on Monday. A senior administration official said the tribesmen's release orders were issued after Chief Administrator Dr Fakhar Alam met the jirga. "Seventeen tribesmen have already been released and the rest will be released by Monday evening," the official said.The tribesmen were in custody for more than one year for suspected links to Taliban in Afghanistan and attacking security forces, officials said. The administration has released 150 tribesmen since June 25 when local Taliban announced a unilateral ceasefire, to meet one of the conditions of the ceasefire. Six check-posts were also removed near Miranshah, which was also a condition for the ceasefire. The 45-member jirga reached North Waziristan on Thursday to broker peace between the government and militants.
