A MAN allegedly killed his wife for dowry at a Naogaon village on Saturday. The deceased is Tazma Begum, 24, wife of Jewel Rahman of village Bujurkantapur under Mohadebpur upazila.The police, quoting local people, said Jewel, son of Nabiruddin of the village, married Tazma, daughter of Abu Taleb, about two years back. During the marriage her parents also gave him Tk 20,000 as dowry. But soon after the marriage Jewel started torturing her for more money. On the fateful day, he picked up a quarrel with Tazma over the issue at about 11:00 am and beat her mercilessly, killing her on the spot.
Later, the greedy man hanged her body from the ceiling of his house to prove that she had committed suicide and went into hiding. On information, the police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. A case was filed with the police in connection with the killing.
