| Hundreds of students greet Bashir upon release |

| Hundreds of Muslim students, thrusting their fists toward the night sky and chanting "God is great" in Arabic, welcomed their revered spiritual leader, the militant Islamic cleric Abu Bakar Bashir, home from prison on Wednesday night. Mr. Bashir was escorted here from prison by police officers, after serving 26 months for immigration violations and criminal conspiracy. He arrived late at night at Al Mukmin, the Islamic boarding school that he helped to found in this central Javanese city, and gave a fiery speech calling on Muslims to fight for Islam, which he called "the only truth," and for the formation of an Islamic state in Indonesia. |
