Sudan is to be fronted before the United Nations (UN) Security Council by President Idriss Deby Itno of Chad for backing rebels trying to overthrow Chadian Government. Ahmat Allami, Chad's foreign minister assured members of the council that Chad intended lodging a complaint about Sudanese aggression. According to Allami the move "follows the powerlessness of the African Union to mediate". "Even if this is not clearly confirmed by Security Council members, we think that Chad's cause must be heard and understood," he said. Diplomatic relations with Khartoum was broken by N'Djamena in April after a coup attempt by a rebel group which it accused Sudan of backing. Clashes have followed between Chadian army forces and rebels.
