Gay Pride Parade Held in Fresno's Tower District
2006-06-04
The annual Gay Pride Parade rolled through the Tower District Saturday morning. It's the 16th year for the event, with the theme "Out in the Valley," and many say the city is making strides when it comes to accepting the gay community. From dancers to bikers, the parade was bigger this year, with more than 50 groups marching, including gay Democrats, gay veterans, and parents and friends of gays and lesbians.

Those in the gay community say these events make them feel closer to their neighbors. "It gives you an outlet and makes you part of the community, instead of being all by myself and alone," said spectator Linda Hancock.

Several campaigning politicians took part, including Fresno City Councilmember Cynthia Sterling. The parade's celebrity marshall was MTV personality and Fresno native Matthew Fashion. "I'm so happy to see everybody here today, and I'm telling you, you have no idea how far this town has come. I love you Fresno!" said Fashion.

And the love was also felt by some straight spectators supporting not only their gay friends, but the area as well. "'Cause I love the Tower District. I think it's soul of Fresno...very eclectic," said spectator Patricia Brewer.

The pride festival was set to wrap up at 8:00pm Saturday with films shown at the Tower Theater.

#9  I'm not actually picking on you, Thinemp Whimble2412, but your post rings a bell that needs to be heard and discussed in America.

Is the standard now simply "Death to America" bad, everything else good?

I think not. America's greatest threats come from within. The threats have many faces... a few of the more obvious...

Multiculturalists who can weaken us through rainbow idiocy and moral equivalence - all cultures are equal...

Tranzi fools who want to have open borders, both those with the intent of destroying us and those who are too self-absorbed in their "cause of the day" approach to life and too stupid to see that would be the effect...

Socialists who think the Constitution can be redefined and interpreted to mean anything that suits their agenda of removing the last stumbling block to a Global Workers Party... let the looting of America begin!

"Progressives" who think the Constitution is merely a canvas upon which to draw their agenda of anything goes, making up rights and privileges as they go... I recall Kennedy lamenting, during the Alito confirmation IIRC, that it was important to continue the "progress" of interpreting the Constitution and that Alito might endanger that redefining process...

Anarchists who have sold the meme of anti-Americanism, no matter where or how applied, will somehow lead to Gaia or Nirvana or Saving the Planet or [insert idiot goal here]... That they don't kill themselves, in line with their recommendation to the rest of us, should clarify their true intent...

Value relativists who care only about their tiny single-issue goal, demanding that it be embraced as normal - when it has been roundly rejected all this time for being abnormal, and not giving a damn if in doing so they destroy the core value system that made America what it is...

A number of leading "issues" are merely the chosen favorites of the media machines - pushing forward those issues that, ultimately, may lead to the adoption of their agenda. In other words, wearing down opposition through endless repetition and recasting of the "debate" until the majority can no longer differentiate and discriminate (yes, that means to make choices), until generations have been indoctrinated by their cohorts in education to accept that fucked-up is okay and even laudable, until no one can tell anymore just what the hell is actually being demanded - and what will be lost by acceding to those demands, is not a democratic process at all. It is disinformation and coercion. It is Soviet-styled anti-Americanism propaganda institutionalized. Eventually forcing everyone to accept imaginary rights and moral equivalency of fringe groups, eroding what has been the core value system that made America what it is, not democracy. It is subversion and abuse of public trust.

Everyone has an agenda, of sorts. The "progressives" would be surprised to find that, for the majority, the agenda is to stay the same, leave me alone, and STFU. No agenda is more important any other unless it is the will of the majority of the citizens. I'm sure others can say these things better, but I believe that is the gist of the matter. America is a bona-fide Representative Republic. When a majority of its citizens actually do favor a social sea-change, then so be it - but not until or unless that is the fact.

#8  Next week they will have a parade for men who like big tits; the week after, for those who like butts. And a then a parade for women who prefer it doggy style. I'm so sick of this whole gay thing. Go have sex and stop telling us how you like it.

#2  Don't poop on their parade. No-one is screaming "death to America" or burning flags or demanding heads. It's much lie Mardi Gras. don't like it? don't go. But no need to poop on a party.
