Another US push to Dawood
2006-06-03
US President George W Bush on Thursday slapped sanctions on India's most wanted criminal Dawood Ibrahim as well as a Brazilian man and an Iranian, under a law targeting major drug traffickers. Bush designated Ibrahim and his organisation, Fahd Jamil Georges of Brazil, Ali Naway of Iran, and the Amezcua Contreras group of Mexico as "foreign narcotics kingpins," White House Tony Snow said. "The initial list of drug kingpins was released in June 2000 and the above names will be added to that list," Snow said, adding that the action underscored the US president's determination "to do everything possible to pursue drug traffickers, undermine their operations, and end the suffering that trade in illicit drugs inflicts on Americans and other people around the world, as well as preventing drug traffickers from supporting terrorists".
