2006-06-03 |
One Turkish soldier and four Kurdish separatists were killed during a clash with guerrillas of the banned Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in the southeastern city of Sirnak on Friday. The fighting took place in the town of Findik hamlet, stated Sirnak Governor's Office. A series of explosions and violent acts took place throughout Turkey in the last few months, most of which claimed by organizations related to PKK. Up to 37,000 people were killed as a result of the armed campaign launched by PKK in 1984 to establish an independent Kurdish state in southeast Turkey. PPK is labeled as a terrorist organization by Turkey, European Union (EU) and the United states. |
