China on Tuesday called on the Hamas-led Palestinian government to recognise Israel's right to exist on the eve of a visit to Beijing by the Palestinian foreign minister. "We urge Hamas to earnestly abandon violence, recognise Israel and accept the agreements already reached," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao, naming the three conditions that Israel and the West have imposed for negotiating with Hamas. "China does not favour political isolation and economic blockade. But at the same time we urge Hamas to renounce violence, recognise Israel and accept agreements already reached," he added.
