STDs Running Rampant In Retirement Community |
2006-05-28 |
Doctors said sexually transmitted diseases among senior citizens are running rampant at a popular Central Florida retirement community, according to a Local 6 News report. A gynecologist at The Villages community near Orlando, Fla., said she treats more cases of herpes and the human papilloma virus in the retirement community than she did in the city of Miami. "Yeah, they are very shocked (to hear the diagnosis)," gynecologist Dr. Colleen McQuade said. "I had a patient in her 80s." A doctor blamed Viagra, a lack of sex education and no risk for pregnancy for the spike in sexually transmitted diseases at The Villages. "All I can repeat are the things I have heard which are things like, 'Should I bring the little blue pills over tonight?'" community singles group president Richard Matwyshen said. |

#7 Let's not forget that a goodly portion of these people are in early to mid-stage Alzheimers, and truly aren't responsible for their behaviour. But why some doctors are prescribing Viagra to single, old men is beyond me. |

#5 The "senior" generation has traditionally been the anchor generation - for morality, values, accumulated wisdom, etc. No more. This "wild oldies" thing is becoming more prevalent due, according to those I personally know, to the death of their spouse which suddenly provided them the money to adopt the increasingly common selfish approach to life and an easy means to stave off loneliness. These same people have described an atmosphere of promiscuity and, yes, perversion, that would shock the socks off their children. Many of these retirement communities are just mass swingers clubs. Something to look forward to? Not to me. Just another empty game and effect of the current drive to de-value American society. |
