An Iraqi Lieutenant was injured in Kirkuk Sunday while trying to liberate a hostage from his kidnappers, a police source said. The source told KUNA unknown gumnen kidnapped an Iraqi civilian from the industrial neighborhood in Kirkuk. But during clashes with the police force, he added, Lieutenant Idriss Mahmoud was injured and was taken to hospital. The kidnappers managed to escaped the scene, said the source.Meanwhile, a force from the Iraqi and coalition troops arrested 10 suspected terrorists near Kirkuk in Northern Iraq. A source at the emergency police told KUNA one of the arrestees was a leader of a terrorist cell called the "Islamic Army."
In Nasiriya in Southern Iraq, the Iraqi forces captured scores of former baathists and foreigners suspected of committing terrorist actions. The apprehension campaign was based on intelligence information about the whereabouts of the suspected terrorists, whose number is unknown.
