Film on Gay Muslims to be released soon
2006-02-15
hat tip - drudge

Sandi Dubowski, who won the Teddy gay and lesbian award in 2001 for his controversial doc "Trembling Before G-d," may cause an even bigger stir with "In the Name of Allah," which explores the struggles of homosexual Muslims.
Gay Indian Muslim helmer Parvez Sharma is directing the pic, which looks at gay, lesbian, and transgender Muslims across the Muslim and Western worlds.

"The world right now needs to understand Islam, and these are the most unlikely storytellers of Islam," Dubowski said, who is producing 'Allah.'

The movie "Trembling Before G-d" was a serious flick (not like Brokeback Mountain) with serious theological discussions and real people. This one seems similar. If there are any KFCs or MacDonalds left in Pakland after the cartoon riots, they risk being trashed next month based on this movie.

#22  I hope this continues and faster, please! I don't personally agree with homosexuality, but good grief, their heads will explode with this hits the streets. Continuing on to force them to act like monsters...puts a whole new meaning to the word "pile on!"

#21  Indeed Zenster!

Age of Aquarius, dawn's a breakin. All evil outs, comes to the surface and has to be dealt with. All of the horrid hearts - out in front. Be dealt with and begone.

Rattle the cages harder - force the issue and the deal with capping the insane.

The movie is going to exponentially increase the "rage". It's good. More mirrors to hold up. please.

Nothing gets better til the screaming hordes are gone.

#19  Joke all you want but try to imagine the furor this movie is going to precipitate. You thought the cartoons were something? I'm sure this movie was well in the works before the cartoons came out. And, perhaps, this is the point. We have yet to see even a hint of all the diverse coverage that Islam can receive once Western style focus is centered upon it. All we can look forward to is even more furious outrage over increasing outside scrutiny of Islam and all of its perfidy. Personally, I think this is extremely good. Much of the world simply shrugs off the usual adverse coverage by critical or satiric authorship. Islam's complete and total inability to withstand the least examination by impartial sources will lead to one after another enraged outburst against, what will seem to many as, merely another ordinay documentary or film treatment.

All of this is extremely good. Islam needs to reveal itself for all to see as the eggshell-ego, thin-skinned hypersensitive bunch of violent thugs that they are. More cartoons! More movies!

#17  Seeing this reminded me of an article from a few years ago in the Times of London on the phenomenon:

. . . Kandahar’s Pashtuns have been notorious for their homosexuality for centuries, particularly their fondness for naive young boys. Before the Taleban arrived in 1994, the streets were filled with teenagers and their sugar daddies, flaunting their relationship. It is called the homosexual capital of south Asia. Such is the Pashtun obsession with sodomy—locals tell you that birds fly over the city using only one wing, the other covering their posterior—that the rape of young boys by warlords was one of the key factors in Mullah Omar mobilising the Taleban. . . .

So . . . is Willie Nelson doing the score for this one?

#16  AlanC: Why doesn't the cognitive dissonance cause their heads to explode?

Good question. There are many, many other absurdities in the Quran. One of my favorites is 9:30 which says that the Jews believe Ezra was the son of God. There are many islamic web sites with discourses on this. Some say that 'well at the time of Mohamot some Jews believed this'. Others say, 'since Ezra is credited with the structure of jewish prayer - that's equivalent to believing he is god'. Others say even more goofy things than that. But one thing to realize is that most moslems have very little idea of what the Quran actually says - they memorize a few verses (especially chap 1) and then they believe what their iman says about the rest of it.

"One of the retorts of gay muslims is that such verses are based on misunderstandings. For example, in the verses above, Allah apparently thinks that no species engages in homosexual acts; however, we know that this is incorrect."

So apparently the infalible Koran revealed by the infalible Allan is has an incorrect understanding of the biology of other species?????

Why doesn't the cognitive dissonance cause their heads to explode?

#14  I refer Rantburgers to the Durex Analis "ad" on Retecool.com. Plenty of other wildly offensive imagery there as well.

#13  Corn hauling is an accepted side effect in the Arab world where contact with girls is so difficult. But muslim men don't see themsleves as gay. They just know that if they get caught then the'll be stoned.

Shame

#12  Some Quranic background is necessary to understand this.

A number of verses in the Quran have bad things to say about homosexuality; e.g.,

7:80 And Lot! (Remember) when he said unto his folk: Will ye commit abomination such as no creature ever did before you?
7:81 Lo! ye come with lust unto men instead of women. Nay, but ye are wanton folk.
'the people of Lud'.

One of the retorts of gay muslims is that such verses are based on misunderstandings. For example, in the verses above, Allah apparently thinks that no species engages in homosexual acts; however, we know that this is incorrect.

or this:

26:165 What! Of all creatures do ye come unto the males,
26:166 And leave the wives your Lord created for you ? Nay, but ye are froward folk.

Here, gay muslims can claim that as long as wives are not 'left', i.e., as long as a muslim never has a wife, the homosexual acts are hallal rather than harem.

Should be an interesting movie.

#11  For those who dont know, Trembling befor G-d was about homosexuality in the Orthodox Jewish community. It was controversial, but of course no riots were started.

#6  I'm no specialist, but from what I've read, homosexuality is one big skeleton in the closet of the muslim world.

On one hand you've got a despising of the effeminate, soft West often compared to a leacherous woman to be taken by force by the islamic He-man (for example, some gangrapes in northern Europe were "justified" by the fact that circumsized men, IE muslims, are of course much more manly and the wimmen were gonna love it), homosexuality being so a western disease and symptom of decadence.

On the other hand, there is numerous reports of a very widespread and common "prison-type homosexuality" in the muslim/arab world, where the teens, with no access to closely guarded girls, instead routinely sodomize younger boys, until they get old enough to be active; also, a "spartan" viril latent homosexuality, men always together, having gun sex in groups, acting "tough",... and the homosexual encounters linked to that, with only the passive man being supposed to be "homosexual".

In fact, I've got the impression that they despise the "feminity" of homosexuality - but they also despise feminity in general, wimmen are either preys (as seen by the generally terrible attitude of "youths" in western countries, great consumers of porn and casual harassers of females, especially in group, sometimes to the point of actual gangrapes), or private property -, but have no problem with the actual sex aspect of it, as long as it remains in socially acceptable norms (in the closet, and in a domination relationship).
