Hospital says Ariel Sharon's life is in danger |
2006-02-12 |
![]() "Sharon's life is in danger," said Yael Bossem-Levy, spokeswoman for Hadassah Hospital where he is being treated. His condition is now "very serious, or critical," she said. An abdominal scan Saturday revealed problems with the blood flow to his intestines and that his digestive tract had suffered severe damage, Bossem-Levy said. The restricted blood flow raised the possibility of necrosis, or death of tissue, in the intestines, she said. Sharon was taken to the operating theater at about 11 a.m. (0900 gmt), and surgery began some time after that. Surgery was to last between three and six hours, Bossem-Levy said. Sharon's sons, Omri and Gilad, rushed to the hospital Saturday morning. Later in the day, Sharon confidant Dov Weissglass, bureau chief Ilan Cohen and adviser Lior Horev arrived. |

#3 This is taken from the http://www.myjewishlearning.com/ site. The transliteration includes some words with two alternatives; the first is for men, the second for women. Incidentally, Mi Sheberakh always uses the mother's Hebrew name. It is recited at the synagogue during the Torah service on the morning of Shabbat. The prayer in English translation:

#2 Well, he's not dead yet, so the Mourner's Kaddish (blessing) isn't appropriate, and he isn't likely to return to his full health and power. Truth to tell, I don't think he would enjoy the kind of best-hope partial recovery that's possible at this point, and I don't see beating on God's door with prayers for the impossible. Besides, Sharon was an old-style nonreligious Zionist, by all accounts. So how about, "Behold, He that guardeth Israel will neither slumber nor sleep," and hope that the People he fought his whole life to protect will stay safe, while this true Lion of Israel goes peacefully and without pain. An interesting thought: I saw the one-man show Golda's Balcony last week, with Valerie Harper, and in it she referred to "the Third Temple." The first two were made of stone, and destroyed by the enemies of Israel, she says, but the Third Temple is made up of the Jews of Israel. "We will not allow the destruction of the Third Temple," she says, near the end, after describing how Ariel Sharon disobeyed orders and broke the back of the Egyptial attack during the Yom Kippur War. May he find, after death, that the God he didn't believe in sends him straight to the Paradise he didn't worry about, where he can finally sit in peace in a garden breeding sheep (or was it cattle?). |
