![]() A patrol agent noticed a distortion in the road running along the border fence, and agents digging in the area found the tunnel Thursday, Kite said. ``It was only about six inches below the asphalt,'' he said. A 2,400-foot tunnel linking a warehouse near the airport in Tijuana, Mexico, to another warehouse in San Diego was discovered last month. |

#6 Don't publicize the tunnels. Booby trap them. A claymore will discourage use of the tunnel. Install sensors to locate tunneling -- say they're seismic monitors -- and counter-mine. |

#5 How long has the assault on our southern border been going on unchecked? How long has it taken to put a new government in place in Baghdad? Actually, putting a new government in place is probably quicker. You know, we do have a few people with some experience in working with the locals in making new democratic governments. |

#4 The problem is what to put in its place. I look around and don't see many promising alternatives. And if the whole place collapses, things will get even worse on the border for a good while. No easy answers. |

#3 Time to work just as actively to bring down the Mexican political structure as we worked to bring down the E.German I would say social structure.... but still point is taken. |

#2 Berlin Wall indeed. The idiots don't get the full implication. You dig tunnels to freedom, not from freedom. Which if you had a fraction of a brain would tell you that Mexico City is NOT freedom. That is where the solution is. The people quit coming over the Berlin Wall when the East German government collapsed. Put two and two together. Time to work just as actively to bring down the Mexican political structure as we worked to bring down the E.German. Meanwhile get Checkpoint Charlie up tomarrow. |

#1 Tunneling proves walls and fencing work. More concrete and wire please. |
