Iraq seeks to join Nato |

Baghdad, Jan 7, P3 The Defense Minister Sa’doun ad-Duleimi has referred to the determination of the government to develop ties with NATO, reaching to join this alliance.In addressing speech he delivered on this occasion held by the Ministry of Defense on 85 anniversary of founding the Iraqi Army, said that the Iraqi new governments seeks to make the Iraqi Army as an active element to realize security and stability in the region. |

#2 A better idea would be to start NATO II, the sequel. Membership would be limited to countries liberated since 1989, the U. S., U. K. and Australia. |

#1 Very interesting -- if accepted that should serously change the dynamics of NATO in Afghanistan, for a start. And I suspect that in a year or so, at the current training pace, Iraqi units will be able to hold their own with the Dutch and the Belgians, at least. Especially on the weekends... |
