Turkish ambassador wounded in Iraq gun attack |
2006-01-03 |
Police in Baghdad say gunmen have attacked the convoy of the Turkish ambassador to Iraq, injuring him slightly. The attack on Unal Cevikoz's convoy occurred on Baghdad's airport road, notorious for frequent assaults by insurgents targeting foreigners. Staff of foreign embassies have been targeted by groups like Al Qaeda to try to force them to shut their missions in Iraq and dissuade them from recognising the US-backed Iraqi government. Most recently, Khartoum closed its embassy in Baghdad after five Sudanese embassy staff were kidnapped. |

#2 Given the already loving relations between Turkey and the muzzies in Northern Iraq I would hate to be in the Northern provences next week. Turkey will certainly hold a grudge and remove a few villages for this. I can already feel the love! |

#1 ...Now, I will freely confess to not knowing the topography along the Airport Highway in Baghdad - but having said that, why is there a single building still standing within accurate gunfire range of the highway? "Notorious for frequent assaults", my a*s. These guys are not accurate, long-range shooters, they are spray-and-pray thugs. Clear out everything within about 150-200 feet on either side of the highway, and a lot of the problem goes away. Mike |
