Bangladeshi militants threaten newspaper |
2005-12-23 |
A banned Islamic group blamed for a series of deadly bombings in Bangladesh has threatened to attack a leading newspaper after an editor commented on the militants in a BBC report, an editor said on Thursday. âWe heard your interview on BBC (British Broadcasting Corp). Through you, we want to tell the government and the world that our next target is your newspaper,â said the letter sent in the name of Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh to the Bengali newspaper Amar Desh. The letter was posted from a polytechnic in the city where the military head of the banned group was arrested last week, said Ataus Samad, an advisory editor at Amar Desh who was interviewed by the BBC. âIt was written in Bengali and was addressed to me,â said Samad, who worked for the BBC local language service previously. |
