ALGIERS, Algeria, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Algerian troops attacked hideouts of Muslim extremists in eastern Algeria, killing at least 10 suspected militants, reports said Thursday. French-language daily L'expression quoted sources as saying that the operation started Tuesday in the Wadi Annab region where troops conducted large-scale searches for gunmen belonging to the Salafi Organization for Daawa and Fighting.
The sources said the army was tipped by a gunman captured last week about the hideout where 30 extremists were believed to be hiding. The army dropped bombs on one of the positions killing at least 10 gunmen, the sources said, adding that the operation continued. |
