Two suicide car bombers struck police checkpoints in separate attacks in Baghdad on Monday morning, killing at least eight people. At 7:15am local time, a suicide bomber struck Ansour Square, near an entrance to the heavily fortified Green Zone compound, killing at least two policemen and wounding 11. An hour earlier, another suicide bomber targeted the Al-Sadeer Hotel in central Baghdad, which is used by foreign security personnel. The bomber exploded a car at the gates to the hotel, killed six and wounding 16 people, mainly security guards. The hotel has been bombed in the past. The attacks came less than 24 hours after a massive truck bombing outside a police station in the south-east of the capital that killed 27 people, many of them policemen. Thirty-three people were wounded.
