A judge in Washington has given the US Government until tomorrow morning to inform the Federal Court of when it intends to begin proceedings against Australian Guantanamo Bay inmate David Hicks. Once the court has that information, it will decide whether it can hear a civil case being mounted by Hicks's lawyers. Hicks vs Bush has been on hold while the courts considered another case featuring detainee Salim Ahmed Hamdan. The ruling in Hamdan favoured the Bush administration, opening the way for military commissions to begin trying detainees. |
