Man shot on London Subway not involved with Bombings
2005-07-23
The man shot dead by police at Stockwell Underground station yesterday morning had nothing to do with Thursday's abortive London bomb attacks, Scotland Yard said tonight. According to witnesses, the man was shot five times at close range after being chased onto a Northern Line train at the South London station at around 10am. Sir Ian Blair, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, said later that the man was directly connected to the bungled bombings of three Tube trains and a London bus the day before.

The Met said in a statement this afternoon:
We believe we now know the identity of the man shot at Stockwell Underground station by police on Friday 22nd July 2005, although he is still subject to formal identification.

We are now satisfied that he was not connected with the incidents of Thursday 21st July 2005. For somebody to lose their life in such circumstances is a tragedy and one that the Metropolitan Police Service regrets.

The man emerged from a block of flats in the Stockwell area that were under police surveillance as part of the investigation into the incidents on Thursday 21st July. He was then followed by surveillance officers to the Underground station. His clothing and behaviour added to their suspicions.

The circumstances that led to the man's death are being investigated by officers from the MPS [Metropolitan Police Service] Directorate of Professional Standards, and will be referred to the IPCC [Independent Police Complaints Commission] in due course.
EFL. Still sounds like a good shooting to me. Now the victim only gets a Darwin Award nomination instead of 72 raisins. I hope they exonerate the officer involved quickly and send a clear message that when a cop says stop, you stop, or risk dying.

#14  All bets are off when you play rabbit with the cops. A real life lesson learned ... the hard way.

#13  As people have talked about the last week: London, Tancredo, etc, they have been talking about what the Muslims are beginning to say about violence and terrorism. Considering the taqiya component of jihad, talk is cheap. Show us by turning the Islamists in. Until that happens, poor Ahmad will get has ass shot when he acts suspiciously. Good on the Brits. Who would have thought that they would be ahead of us in dealing with this problem?

#12  South America has long been home to some of the top Islamist terrorists in the world, including Carlos the Jackal. They keep a low profile, only menacing the local Jews, never anyone else. However, they are big and potent and radical, and I expect that there will be much future business with them.

#11  Sorry for the family. Otherwise tough titty. Do not jump the turnstile while wearing MeToo Bomber Attire. Just another Moron gone. I know, he played in the band and had a possible cancer cure and loved his DVD collection. Toooooo damn late.

#10  My guess is somebody big was in the house and wanted out without being trailed. Heavy Coat Man was a decoy and then panicked. Was the house still under surveyllance after Heavy Coat Man left?

#9  There are a lot of Al Q supposed to be in the 3 Corners area in South America. Maybe he was the local contact for his cell, contacting one of the English cells. Or, alternatively, he was terminally stupid.

#8  It gets worse. Jean Charles de Menezes was a Brazilian. Still, makes you wonder what he was doing in London at an apartment under surveillance.

#7  Not so fast. The Times says:

ARMED undercover police chased and shot dead a man directly linked to the London bombers’ terror cell after he ran into a South London Underground station and tried to board a train.

Much more at that link. Note that there's a second page.

#5  He was also wearing a heavy coat with London temps in the 70's as I recall. Only thing missing was a neon sign on his back that said "Shoot Me"

#4  here is the connection: He had emerged from a nearby house that was under surveillance because of a suspected link to Thursday's attempted bomb attacks on three Tube trains and a bus.

The police trailed him: The man ... was then followed by surveillance officers. He is thought to have caught a bus to Stockwell Tube station

And they tried to arrest him: where he was challenged by officers, who told him to stop.

He made the last mistake of his life, according to witness reports: The man, who is believed to be of South American appearance, then bolted down an escalator... He apparently tried to get on a train before he was ... shot five times in the head by an officer...

Wrong place, wrong time, wrong behaviour.

#3  According to Sky News: Strong evidence recovered from the scenes of the planned explosions led to a day of intense, high-profile police activity ... In the morning, marksmen shot a man near Stockwell Tube station ... Scotland Yard has revealed the man is not connected to the investigation into the attempted terror attacks ... six hours later, armed police stormed a house near the scene of the shooting arresting a man with his wife and young son ...

What they say: Not connected to the investigation into the attempted terror attacks. What they don't say: Obeyed police orders, or Not connected to any Islamofascist threat.

Even if he was innocent and stupid, the ultimate cause of his death is not police action but the murderous double-attack perpetrated by eight Islamofascists who were not denounced by their Moslem brethren.

#2  He did not comply to police instructions terrorist or not. A very big Darwin award...

#1  How can they say with certainty he was not connected? they haven't even caught the four bombers. Something's not right.
