| Report: Iraqi Kurdish leader injured |

| LONDON, June 1 (UPI) -- The head of the Iraqi Democratic Party of Kurdistan, Masoud Barzani, was injured in an Iraqi attack, it was reported Wednesday. Al-Quds al-Arabi quoted unidentified Kurdish sources in northern Iraq as saying assailants opened fire on his convoy after he left his office at noon in Erbil in northern Iraq. The sources told the independent Palestinian-owned paper Barzani was taken to a hospital with wounds to his feet. They added violence erupted across Erbil, the capital of the Kurdish region, during which President Jalal "Talabani's people were accused of being behind the attack following tension in relations between the two men in recent weeks over the question of the presidency of the region." The sources said the tension between Barzani and Talabani had stopped the Kurdish parliament from convening, adding the Kurdish legislature "has not been functioning" since after the Iraqi general elections on Jan. 30. |

| #3 Having just watched Kurdistan TV (KDP satellite channel), it is clear this article is a lie. There was Masud Barzani talking to some general, Hoshyar Zebari talking to some Arab conference, kindergarten graduation. . . the usual. If Masud Barzani had been wounded and if there were violence in the streets of Hewler (Erbil=Arabic), then KTV would have reported it. At least al-Quds al-Arabi is living up to its usual journalistic standards. The only reason it's tolerated is because it makes al-Jazeera look legitimate. We'll see this repeated next week in the Turkish media. |

| #1 I guess these guys need to learn more about democracy. I would gladly let my opposition win the first political office. The odds of the people understanding how things work in the term of the first politician is slim. So they will be wanting his head in one to two years, then you can come in and be the hero, as now thier expatations are lower. |
