#24  You hit the nail on the head 3dc(#20)! A well placed reality check, thanks.

#23  There is only one standard and that is American Standard

#22   I protest that one of the Toilets that I made may have been desecrated by being feed a Koran. Flushing you know what down one of my Toilets is one thing, but a Koran crosses the line!

#20   Double Standard? Ya Think?

Rabbi Zevulun Lieberman, whose son Hillel died trying to save Joseph's Tomb in the West Bank city of Nablus from Muslim rioters, told WND he is "sickened by this Muslim outcry when Muslims have shown the world they don't have any respect for religion whatsoever. They lost the right to protest about disrespect for religion and holy objects a long time ago."

#19  Thinking you're likely correct ZF. I just don't want to use tactics that have had poor results.

#18  Shipman: Remember when talking about pigfat and such stuff that the Sepoys were loyal retainers of Her Majesty until the coating became know.

I don't think the Koran incident is material in this instance. Uncle Sam has invaded two (count 'em) Muslim countries. The crown wasn't invading Muslim territories - Muslims were generally favored under the Raj. As far as angry Muslim thresholds are concerned we breached every single one of them years ago - raiding mosques, bombing them, occupying Muslim land - you name one red line, we crossed it. Note the really tightly-framed photos of the demonstrators. At most, I see several dozen people in a single shot. As I have said earlier, the Muslims of the modern era are not the death-defying zealots of our imaginations. If they can stick it to us without getting killed, they will. GWB has made it dangerous for Muslims to kill Americans, and Muslims are accordingly reducing the scale of their ambitions (although not their resentments).

#16  I wouldn't worry too much about this threat. If they couldn't get worked up enough over the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq to wage large-scale jihad, they're not going to get worked up over the Koran. I'm sure many are angry. But not angry enough to risk their lives. You have a tiny minority of dead-enders. The rest don't have the guts or have enough of a grip on reality to understand that death is certain, whereas paradise is only a shimmering promise.

Not that lucky: AFAIK Herat is inhabited mainly by Tadjiks and Hazaras not by Pashtuns. Along with Mazr el Sharif it was the base for Ismael Khan: one of the strongest opponents of the Taliban until he was vanquished and captured by them. In other words, clerics in Herat not wanting to play in Taliban hands was to be expected.

#14  I have to admit that I kinda like the pigfat idea. :)

#13  True Jules true....but there's nothing to stop us from claiming the pig fat ammo is happening. Just leak is shakily to a Newweak source and let the rest happen ;) Yes..military first and indoctrination second followed by free market economy...work every time.

#12  I sympathize with your sentiment, Warthog, but how real a chance do you think it is that our ammo will be coated in pigfat?

What will work? Military no nonsense first and foremost, but what then? We have to keep shoving reality to the forefront of each argument-not only for them, but for lefty Americans, too, who can't seem to call a spade a spade without genuflecting and fawning with slobbering apologies about America.

#11  No need to keep reminding them. This is a class war of ideolgies, A Hindu will not convince you to stop eating hamburgers becasuse cows are sacred. These people want to go to Allen and take as many of us as they can. They understand one thing and one thing only.... force. Coat our ammunition in pig fat and bury a few in pig entrails and let some go free to inform the rest.

#10  We (non muslims) have been in a state of war with Islam from it's inception. What makes these exortations to holy war any different? These are the same exortations that many muslims hear every friday. They only get press when it has some thing to do with the US in a big way. The Waki Pakis do this riot thing at the drop of the hat. What makes you think their bretheren in Afghanistan are any different?

I suggest a mixture of numbers 3,5,4,6 and, 7 as treatment and prophylaxis. We have to save number 8 in reserve because it will make us like them but we still may need it. If you dont know what I am referting to you need to read the post by Dave D. in this thread here.

#9  And had a Christian or, heavens to Mergatroid, a JEW, kissed the Koran, the result would be the same (or worse).

We need to keep reminding people that suicide bombings are worse cases of desecration-they stop human life. We need to force the chanting idiots in that hemisphere (and this one) to wake up out of their reality-denying, literalist stupors and distinguish insult from humiliation from torture from murder.

#8  One of our contributors at "The Daily Brief" is "Capt. Loggie" who is now in Afghanistan. He just posted a comment: "We got lucky here in Herat. The local leaders and the religious mullahs (believe it or not they are on our side) were able to calm down the “hotheads” in the area before they caused some serious damage. We had no demonstrations here. However, we took extra precautions just in case."
So it seems that some of them are thinking straight--- which is kind of reassuring, actually.

#7  These assholes better hope the Christian world doesn't decide to start imitating this 9th Century bullshit.

I know where I'd place my money....

#6  The jury is still out on afghanistan.

We do not know who these holywar threateners are or how seriously they should be taken. For all we know the 300 clerics who want holy war are all discredited ex taliban (or even current taliban) who are looking for a way back to power.

Or this could be the birth of a new 'popular' movement.

Or somewhere in between.

#5  What is with these people? It is a piece of friggin paper fer God's sake. These same a-holes cheered when ancient Buddhas were blown to bits. What hypocrites. What cavemen. If they make move one against our troops, blow them to shreds. They will not be missed.

#4  From time to time, a clergyman in this country decides he needs to lie down in front of a bank or something.
Funerals and weddings don't satisfy his need for attention or his desire to be like the saints who were always doing something like that. Or maybe the saints were ministering to the poor in some dangerous, miserable place but who has time for that?
Anyway, to make himself feel good, and important, and get attention, he takes up a cause nobody knew existed. Maybe he does a march. Everybody who is anybody does marches, so why not him?

Perhaps I'm projecting, but we may be seeing some of the same thing in those wacky Islamic nutjobs who call themselves clergy.

Problem is, their flocks don't ho-hum the latest nonsense from the pulpit.
