Shipping Company Negotiating With Pirates Over Hostages |
2005-04-21 |
From the Office of Naval Intelligence April 20th World Wide Threat to Shipping Report: Per an 08 April report, the president of [the Japanese tug] Idaten's shipping company told media sources that he hired a negotiator in Malaysia to talk to the pirates. The $462,000 USD required to secure the safe return of the hostages includes the negotiator's fee, travel costs, and compensation for the job Idaten was carrying out. The company's president refused to discuss the ransom fee, because Malaysian law bans ransom payment in abduction cases. |
