 Israeli troops shot dead a suspected Palestinian militant near the West Bank town of Jenin on Thursday, a military source said. The source said the man was killed after he refused to surrender to soldiers who had come to arrest him before dawn. Muayyed Hussein, mayor of the nearby Palestinian village of Baqa al-Sharkiya, confirmed the death but added he did not know if the man was a militant. Israeli radio reports said the army had suspected the man had been involved in a Tel Aviv nightclub bombing last month in which five people were killed.
