Life on Mars: Not So Fast |
2005-02-18 |
Two days ago BigEd put up a post about evidence of life on Mars. That post pointed to this article, which was based on information given to the author by people who'd attended a scientific meeting. It didn't come from the scientists themselves. Well, today NASA issued a press release putting the brakes on the whole thing:![]() NASA does not have any observational data from any current Mars missions that supports this claim. The work by the scientists mentioned in the reports cannot be used to directly infer anything about life on Mars, but may help formulate the strategy for how to search for martian life. Their research concerns extreme environments on Earth as analogs of possible environments on Mars. No research paper has been submitted by them to any scientific journal asserting martian life. |

#1 ![]() Our secret is still safe. I told the supreme council that a little "lobbying" could quell the firestorm... They even let me write the press release! -"Uncle Martin" |
