| Terror Warning Issued For Australian Travellers In The U.K |

| THE Australian Government has warned Australian travellers that terrorists may be planning attacks on cinemas, theatres and pubs in the UK. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has updated its travel advice for the UK, urging Australian tourists to be alert to suspicious activities. The advice said while there was no specific information to suggest a terrorist attack was imminent in the UK, police and politicians there believed there was a high probability of some kind of attack being attempted. "Police have warned the public to be vigilant at cinemas, theatres, pubs and nightclubs and on all types of public transport, including the London Underground system and buses," the advice said. "Australians in the United Kingdom are advised to be alert to their own security. "As you would in Australia, use common sense and be alert to suspicious activities." The advice also alerts Australian tourists to a spate of assaults which have occurred late at night on public transport in the UK. Pickpocketing and street theft at tourist spots and on public transport was also on the rise, while sexual assaults had occurred in unlicensed taxis, it said. DFAT also warned Australian travellers to be careful using automatic teller machines (ATMs) in the UK because of the number of card scams being carried out there. "Prior to travel, Australians should ensure they have a variety of financial options available to them including credit cards, travellers' cheques and cash," it said. |
